congratulations!!!your turtles are very nice!
Thank you. By the way, thank you for speaking English - my Italian is not great.
beautiful turtles...how many are they long?
this forum has also a section dedicated to foreign users English Corner
Between 3.5 and 6 inches, thank you for pointing out that section.
Congratulations Flintus!
Are the tortoises outdoor only in summer?
Yep, temperatures are too cold for the rest of the year to be outside. I reckon I get them out about 75 days a year. The rest of the time they are inside in a 40 foot square vivarium.
If it is very sunny I find 15 degrees Celsius is warm enough, if it is a bit cloudy I tend to be safe and go for 17 or 18. My kinixys erosa are more tolerant of cold temperatures, they are fine when sunny at 13 Celsius.

Flintus, do you always keep your carbonaria inside the cage when they're outside? Here in Italy, we usually use wood, or we build the fence with bricks, so that our tortoises cannot see beyond the fence itself and they stop trying to get out all the time, getting stressed and annoyed. Have you ever noticed this attitude in your tortoises within a cage?

Usually, there is wood around the cage as I know some get stressed out by seeing out, but I haven't experienced it with these guys. It is only a temporary pen, we are in the process of building a 20 by 8 by 6 foot enclosure for the hingebacks and the red foots-obviously divided so to prevent parasite contamination;
That is a great idea Flintus, can you post some photos when you're done building? it would be interesting to compare the different housings and know how tortoises react to different conditions

Sure. It is planned to be a fruit cage style enclosure, so my hingebacks will have something to climb.
