Herbivorous river turtles are, second only to softshells, the most interesting turtles to me. I love them all and I'm in the process of building my groups. I got these guys almost one year ago exactly and they're completely acclimated now. This species is a notoriously bad captive, but I have not found this to be true. My climate here and access to aquatic vegetation seems to be the trick. I really enjoy these turtles, hopefully I will be able to reproduce them one day. Thanks for looking.

I see in your tubs a lot of Eichornia, do it helps you to keep water clean?

I use the hyacinth in every enclosure, it really helps with cleaning the water. However, with species that eat plants, especially completely herbivorous species, it gets eaten quickly and I have to add more all the time. In those enclosures, because its torn apart and sinks to the bottom, it does the opposite. It's just part of the game and it's a lot of fun to sit back and watch them graze.
